Blossom blooms in the ashes

The plot of life is made of contrasts. I think about it today, I thought about it in November and I thought about it in the early hours of January.

On 26 November Blossom received a MICHELIN star. We were happy then. We were proud of our work. And we were in the news.

The night of 7 January was no different from any other. Just another service doing what we do best, with precision, professionalism and beauty. Hours later, in the early hours of the morning, my phone rang. It was the police. Blossom had caught fire. A short circuit had started the fire and consumed the back of the shop, the bathroom and the roof. Fortunately, there were no injuries. The fire brigade did their best. However, the material losses were very significant. When I arrived at the premises, all was devastation. At first glance, it was difficult to see what could be saved. How could such a thing happen, I thought, I could still feel the emotion of the hug we gave each other with my wife Lucia and my brother-in-law Francisco on the day of the MICHELIN Gala when I heard my name called to take the stage.

Faced with disaster, the first feelings are difficult to handle and are very similar: disbelief, frustration, uncertainty. But, as the fabric of life is made of contrasts, even so, with the tragedy fresh, with its smell of soot and its blackness intact, I remembered the distinction we received, the happiness and pride we felt for our work. And again, we would be in the news.

Since 8 January the days have not been easy. Every day is like a battle that brings us face to face with the biggest challenge of our lives: to reopen Blossom. And we are not alone in this task. Since the fire, we have received constant demonstrations of solidarity from Malaga society and from our gastronomic colleagues. A haven in the midst of this storm that we have to go through. It is with great responsibility and affection that we have accepted the help they have offered us, allowing us to reopen Blossom on 27 January in a pop-up format on the sixth floor of the Hotel Lario. In the meantime, the whole Blossom team and family are also working to reopen the Strachan Street location to live up to our name.

In recent weeks, we have confirmed our course to continue the journey in the wake of the recognition that the MICHELIN Guide awarded us in November. That is why today we are more committed than ever to our cuisine, to our diners and to the city of Malaga.

The fabric of life is made up of contrasts. That's why I think we have to remain humble. We must remember that happiness is ephemeral, that pride in our work must be our compass and that we will not always be in the news. That is why today, more than ever, our mission is to flourish.
